Enter the Grid with TRON Lightcycle / RUN beginning April 4
Are you ready to enter the Grid?
It’s time to hop on your Lightcycle and prepare for the race. TRON Lightcycle / Run opens on
April 4 at Magic Kingdom!
I have been not-so-patiently awaiting the opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run since they
announced the ride was coming to Walt Disney World several years ago. I am a big fan of
TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010), but even if you aren’t familiar with the films, I think
you’ll find a lot to be excited about with this new attraction.
Before we dive into the specifics of TRON Lightcycle / Run, let’s refresh our memory on the
TRON universe. The original TRON movie is noted for its use of computer-generated imagery
(CGI). CGI is the industry standard today, but TRON was the first film to place actors inside of a
CGI world. Both TRON and TRON: Legacy are completely focused on technology and the
digital world. Our technology has certainly come a long way since the 1982 release, and I’m
excited to see so much technology put to work on this attraction. If Kevin Flynn could see us
now!
The storyline for TRON Lightcycle / Run begins where TRON: Legacy ends. Sam Flynn has
opened a gateway into the Grid for you to step into and compete with Team Blue in the ultimate
race for survival. You will climb onto your own Lightcycle and race against the Grid’s programs
(Team Orange) in a thrilling, high-speed adventure. The goal? Pass through eight Energy Gates
and defeat your opponent.
I’ve gotten a peak at the construction over the last few years while riding the Tomorrowland
Transit Authority PeopleMover. The first time I realized it would be partially inside and partially
outside, I squealed. TRON Lightcycle / Run is an exciting thrill ride, and you can expect drops,
darkness, and high speed. This roller coaster will be one of the fastest in any Disney Park
worldwide! Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride TRON Lightcycle / Run.
You’re probably thinking, “Where am I going to put my backpack and my Mickey balloon-shaped
popcorn bucket while I’m riding a Lightcycle?” Don’t worry! Complimentary lockers are available
for storing your belongings while you experience this attraction. The digital lockers pair with your
MagicBand, MagicBand+, or park ticket to lock and open your locker. The Lightcycles have a
small compartment for small items like phones and wallets.
Like other rides that have opened at Disney Parks recently, TRON Lightcycle / Run will utilize a
virtual queue. Guests with valid theme park admission and a Magic Kingdom park pass for the
same day can request to join the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app. Individual
Lightning Lanes will also be available for purchase. A standby queue will not be available.
As we have seen with new attractions recently, the virtual queue will fill up quickly! Contact your
Vacation Wizard for the most up-to-date information on requesting to join the queue.
I can’t wait to experience this new attraction. Whether you are a fan of TRON or have never
seen the movies, I hope you will make the trip to experience this attraction. Team Blue needs
your help to defeat Team Orange, so hop on your Lightcycle and let’s go!
